We have a 2016 Rav 4 that we leased April 2, 2016 that has 10,955 miles on it. In September, 2017 we traveled from Hilton Head, SC to Kennesaw, GA and made two (2) stops during the trip. Upon reaching our destination we backed into the driveway and pushed the button to raise the back tailgate and heard a sharp banging noise and the gate only raised a short distance. We unloaded the vehicle through the side doors and drove it to the dealership. The sevice department was closed but a sales representative looked at it and said that an accident had occurred to cause this and that it would have to be brought back to the service department on Monday which was done. The service department called our home and said that the vehicle needed to be taken to the collision department which was done. The collision section stated that the deck had been pushed or pulled or that something in the cargo section had become entangled in the door. They termed it an accident that was not covered by the 30 month, 36,000 warranty and that the cost for repair would be $1,309.10. On October 11 we were notified that the parts were in at the collision center and the vehicle was taken there the next day. This repair took thirteen days because they had to order an additional part that cost $923.86for parts and labor making the grand total for repairs $2,234.77.
We were told that the warranty would not be valid because they had never seen this problem before. This is not true because several complaints are listed on carcomplaints.com. Their contention that:
1. There was an accident. THIS IS FALSE BECAUSE THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT.
2. That someone pushed/pulled on the door. THIS IS ALSO FALSE BECAUSE NOBODY DID ANY SUCH THING.
3. Something in the luggage area shifted and jammed the door. THIS IS ALSO FALSE. ALL ITEMS IN THIS AREA WERE SECURED TO PREVENT ANY SUCH MOVEMENT.
We have two (2) witnesses who ere traveling with us and observed the fact that this was no an accident.
