A very bad deal on the Rav4 LN (Cheap Edition) . On this one there are 2 holes in the bumper that have black plastic cap covers that look like CRAP on a red Cheap plastic bumper, Body cover more than bumper. Of course I had seen it at the dealership and had the idea of installing the lights myself when I had some extra cash because the next model up cost thousands more and what should two fog lights cost, $100 bucks each or less. They are just cheap plastic ones now.
Come to find out the Toyota dealers will not sell a OEM fog install kit and act like it can't even be done somehow. Next step was hours of web surfing to find an after market fog set that will fit a 2014 other than on E bay. I did find a set of OEM Cheap China Look a-likes that was supposed to fit and had an OEM look alike switch and relay, and OEM like wiring . The real crap done by Toyota was The Rav4 had all the Fog Light wiring in place except having the Fog light switch installed on the main selector head light parking light control ,making all their in place wiring useless . Thanks Toyota, great at being Cheap, that's why Dealers will not install fogs on the new LN Cheap Editions Rav4s. I could have installed After market or Junk Yard OEM Fogs in less than one hour if Toyota would have installed the same light switch used in all other model Rav4s. No reason to use a different light switch on the LNs "cost would most likely been a savings not a buck more for some thing different in spite of being Cheap China Junk.
If all the Rav4s had the same switch, It would have been just a Fog light, one screw and plug in and a single relay and adjustment then done. Installing the right side Fog is a tight place to work. Not very mechanic friendly and finding a good spot to get wiring through the firewall is a bitch. The basic electrical Design sucks as well as access for any repairs. But I don't think many cars and trucks are repair shop friendly now, so get something well rated as dependable. I am a retired Heavy Machinery Mechanic, An Aircraft Mechanic and I have always done my own work on all my cars including setting up Race cars and motorcycles for different types of racing and to make a point, KISS ! Keep it Simple Stupid should have been the rules. Most of the new stuff fails that RULE by light years. Cars included .
