I drove a rental car Toyota 2014 Camry and the dash lights at full on was great as was a few other 2014 cars and trucks I looked at. Well, I ended up buying a 2014 Rav4, test drove it on a slight overcast day and not at night. I am a older driver so my night vision is not as great as some 16 year old kid. BUT, I also have a 2001 Subaru and the dash lights are fine at 100% on. I have a Old 1978 Ford truck and the lights are so dim you need a flash light to read the fuel and Speedo, but it's not even used on the road anymore.
The dash lights on the Rav4 at full on are about like a Subaru 2001 on 50 % or less. This also becomes a big issue driving at day when driving into to sun. The speedo and etc are set way back into a sort of tunnel and shadows make seeing the Speedo difficult at best. Turning on the dash lights during the day could help but they are way too dim. On a Camry I rented, the dash lights during the day was a big help. The Rav4 dash lights can't be made to get brighter. If I had it to do all over I would have looked at something way better than a Cheap made Rav4 that's thousands overpriced new. Big numbers inside the Speedo and etc could have helped and a shorter tunnel.
Some one please make a set of LED lights that could mount on the dash tunnels with hoods that point at the tack, gas, and Speedos on cars like the Dim Light Rav4. The dash lights Suck! There was no need for a switch to make them even dim down more. That 60 buck switch is useless unless you drive with a Military Night Vision head set. What a sorry, sorry set up the dash light system is. The Design Jerks should be working in a KFC cutting up chickens but I would bet they would even screw that up to. "Can anyone do anything right anymore?" Over 100 years of manufacturing Cars and still now they get worse not better. What schools do these design kids go to now, Moron Tech!
