Toyota and its related car lines have been using a soy based wiring attached to the entire engine wiring harness. The part alone costs about $3500 to get shop to get. Labor is another $3000 as it takes 2 days to complete! The problem soy is like ringing the dinner bell for rodents! Furthermore, this the 2nd time in 3 years this happened. And, the part cannot currently be procured anywhere in the U,S. per Toyota Corporation in a direct call FROM ME! Toyota claims the soy based wiring is more eco-friendly! It sure isn't wallet friendly. I strongly advise COMPEHENSIVE vehicle insurance as rodent damage is covered. As P,S, This also happened to my 98 Camry! However, it was a much easier repair. Toyota suggests parking your car in a garage. Well, I don't have one! The Toyota repair shop said we were lucky it didn't cause an engine fire! BTY - if I had a garage it might have started a house fire!
There are many ways to build cars more eco-friendly. Soy just happens to be good for starving farmers! But, the part comes from Japan! So, it doesn't even benefit U,S. farmers. But, Japan is "amping" up the Chinese production! The Toyota Website has a banner across it saying their is a global supply chain problem. The dealer says it will take "at least" 8 weeks to get. MAYBE LONGER! After being a loyal Toyota owner since 1998,I am FED UP and done with Toyota! OH - I forgot the airbags may not work and that is a separate $400 expense. IF YOU OWN A TOYOTA, CHECK YOUR COMPREHENSIVE VEHICAL INSURANCE. THANK GOODNESS FOR STATE FARM OR I WOULD TOTALLY F'D!
