The heat shield is made of material that can corrode. The connection at the two rear have failed so it is hanging from the front two connection points. I have scheduled an appointment with my dealer to correct this situation. If the shield fell off not only would this be a hazard on the road (and possibly causing an issue on this car during the failure) there would be no heat shield which would not be noticeable to the vehicle owner until it caused a fire.
The shield should have been made from better material; I consider this to be a design flaw. Worse yet, given the ultimate issue (car catching fire) it should not be treated lightly.
