The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Rav4. While the vehicle was being inspected at an independent mechanic, the technician noticed that the muffler was corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was later taken to jack taylor's alexandria Toyota (3750 richmond hwy, alexandria, va 22305), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The contact was referred to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

The contact pulled over and discovered that the heat shield from the muffler was detached and wedged near the rear passenger tire. The contact mentioned that the detached heat shield was removed.
