RAV4 Limited

  • Automatic transmission
  • 71,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

It started in 2015, engine light and the VSC, 4WD came on. It wouldn't go out so I took it to the mechanic. They said the oxygen sensor was bad so got money together and had it replaced. It still went out again and mechanic SAID that dealer said you have to buy their part only. I had to get dealership part only. Again it went out so you know I couldn't get my sticker, wont pass emission, horrible.

So the other sensor was still out cause after driving to get circuits woken up, here comes the light again. So now its the front sensor that's bad. Replaced that one. This is horrible, I AM DISABLED AND CAN'T AFFORD THIS EVERY TIME. ANOTHER 300 x1 so I have 2 vsc not one. This sh*t is for the birds. I always liked rav4 but not anymore.

Replacing oxygen sensor before 60K ridiculous. Just stopped working. I've many cars in my life but this is the worst.

This caused two failures one after another 2 days later. The price for the part seems very high from the dealer.

The sensors seem to affect the engine revs and the shift points.

I expected more from a Toyota. Maybe reliability is no longer a trademark of this maker.

problem #4

Oct 112010

RAV4 Sport V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 18,948 miles

Check engine, Vehicle Stability, and Skid control lights came on intermittently. First attempt at dealer service resulted in a (free) replacement of the car's computer (already?). Problem did not go away. Second attempt indicated faulty oxygen sensors--replacement is $600, no warranty. After only 3-1/2 years and 19,000 miles?? This is the famed Toyota reliability?

RAV4 Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,500 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Engine light, VSC and 4 Wheel lights all came on with a code of P2195, Bank 1 sensor 1 A/F sensor, sensor went bad with only 35,000 (37 months) on the vehicle. After Googling , found that this problem is pretty common on Toyota's, saw many on the RAV4 forum with less mileage than this.

Last 2 vehicles (Bravada & Lincoln) both had over a 100,000 and neither had any sensors replaced.

problem #2

Jan 202010

RAV4 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 43,000 miles

When the oxygen sensor goes, the VSD and stability control systems shut down. They shut down because they are allegedly non-essential. The connection seems totally illogical and potentially a safety issue. Why is the oxygen sensor going on a vehicle with just over 40,000 miles? Not covered by warranty.

RAV4 Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,726 miles

The check engine light keeps coming on (see my earlier posts to this web site) and now it is because the oxygen sensors have been failing. Supposedly, according to Toyota, the ethylene in the gas (99 + percent of gas stations have been using ethylene in their gasoline for years) is destroying the oxygen sensors on cars.

The Bank 1 Oxygen sensor 2 was replaced and now the car runs ok. We'll see how long it takes to develop another problem.
