Had to replace cam shaft. My mechanic--whom you list as Toyota mechanic--could not find cause of SO many dashboard lights going on at same time. Finally--after two days of diagnostics-- he had to replace cam shaft because oil level had gone so low. I've had several other make cars, and never did ANY of them consume the oil that this one does--why???

  1. EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION; GRADUAL INCREASE AFTER 45000 MILES ON ODOMETER. i USE PREMIEUM MOTOR OIL 5/20 WT.

    2. EXHAUST MUFFLER LOCATED AT STATION AFTER CATALYTIC MUFFLER ROTTED OUT ON END BACK SIDE ABOVE REAR BOTTOM MUFFLER END CAP JOINT. THIS I RESEARCHED WHEN I NOTICED THE MANUFACTURER OMITTED THE WEEP HOLE THAT HAS BEEN A STANDARD DISCHARGE HOLE FOR ACCUMULATED MOISTURE FROM THE CONDENSATION THAT ACCRUES INSIDE THE MUFFLER WHEN THE EXTREME HEAT COOLS DOWN BUILDING THE CONDENSATION THAT NO LONGER CAN EXIT THROUGH THE LACK OF THE INDUSTRY STANDARD WEEP HOLE FOUND AS STANDARD ON THE AFTER MARKET MUFFLER I USED TO REPLACE THE DUMB OEM STANDARD. THE AFTER MARKET UNIT HAS A LIFETIME WARRANTY REPLACEMENT AT NO XTRA COST.

P.S. MY BACK GROUND IS HEAVY DUTY TRUCK AUTOMOTIVE DESIGN , CUSTOM ENGINEERING (OEM) PROBLEM SOLVING AND CONSUMER FRAUD INVESTIGATING DEALER/SELLER TO CONSUMER-BUYER.. TOYOTA BLEW ME OFF WHEN I FILED MY CASE# 13025346 IN AUGUST OF 2013. AFTER I CHECKED ON LINE AND FOUND HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF THIS RAV 4 MUFFLER FAILURES. ACTUALLY MINE STARTED MAKING THE HISSING NOISE AFTER ABOUT 21/2 YEARS OF OPERATION HERE IN THE NORTHEAST. TOYOTA DEALER WANTED TO REPLACE THE WHOLE UNITIZED ONE PIECE SYSTEM (BUILT FOR INCREASED EASE OF PRODUCTION NATURALLY) BUT THEY TELL OWNERS WHO COMPLAIN OH NO WE DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH OUR RAV 4 MUFFLERS FAILING! B.S. THEY GO INTO DENIAL!!! THE LOCAL DEALERS QUOTED ME THE WHOLE SYSTEM AT $3050.00 PARTS & LABOR! THERE APPEARS TO BE SEVERAL WEAK DESIGNS AND (COST CUTTING) AREAS ON THE RAV4S IN THE REAR SUSPENSION AND A STEERING PARTS THAT STARTED WITH SERVICE DEPARTMENT FYI'S THEN LETTERS TO THE OWNERS. THE FIRST SIGN OF ANY DESIGN DEFECT OF THE AUTO OEM'S PRODUCTS THEY SIT ON IT UNTIL IT BECOMES NUMERICALLY OVER WHELMING THEN THEY SLOWLY REACT (AS HAS GENERAL MOTORS WITH THEIR LATEST FIASCO THOUSANDS OF FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH FIRES THAT TOOK SOME LIVES, I SUSPECT THEY KNEW IN ADVANCE THEY COULD HIDE BEHIND THE CORRUPT GOVNT. WHO STOLE GM FROM THE STOCK & BONDHOLDERS AND GIFTED IT TO THE STINKING UNION & THEIR MEMBERSHIP, ALL OF THE AFORE-MENTIONED IS THE RESULT OF DUMBED DOWN UNINFORMED CONSUMERS WHO HAVEN'T GOT A CLUE IN MOST CASES.I WROTE ABOUT MY PROBLEMS TO AUTOMOTIVE NEWS, AN INDUSTRY INFORMATIVE PAPER I HAVE SUBSCRIBED TO FOR OVER FORTY YEARS DELIVERED TO MY HOME EVERY MONDAY MORNING WITH THE WALL STREET JOURNAL; BOTH VERY IMPORTANT SOURCES FOR SELECTIVE IMPORTANT NEWS ON TWO FRONTS. AUTOMOTIVE NEWS ALSO BLEW ME OFF! I HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED MANY TIMES IN THIS GREAT INDUSTRY INFORMATIVE NEWSPAPER; THEY DIDN'T ACKNOWLEDGE MY LETTER THAT WAS FULL OF IMPORTANT INFORMATION OF VALUE TO THE CONSUMERS OF THESE VEHICLES. THEY COULD HAVE EASILY EDITED FOR SPACE BUT TOOK THE EASY WAY OF DISREGARD. QUITE COMMON WITH THE WANNABEE NEWS EDITORS.OF TODAY. NOT!!!!

THANKS FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION AS MUCH NEEDED WATCHFUL EYES FOR CONSUMERS.

Jan 142008

RAV4 Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,607 miles

The check engine light came on, so I took the vehicle into the dealership. The following problems were indicated by the trouble codes: Brake system malfunction; Canister pump off; Evaporative system problem; low flow; etc. Because of the faulty errors, the check engine light was on and I had no: cruise control; Vehicle stability control' and 4 wheel drive, not to mention the other potential failures listed above.

They reset the codes (and some other things, which they didn't tell me), and I drove the car home.

Eight (8) days later, the same problem occurred. I had to take the car back to have the canister pump (which wasn't working 8 days earlier) and canister replaced. Why didn't they fix these things the week before?

I'm tired of taking my $30,000 new car into the shop for repairs it shouldn't be having after only 6 months of driving. Toyota, I'll probably never buy another new car from you again. I never had so many problems with the junk chevys, fords and chrysler products I've owned.
