This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Having an issue with my rear right wheel speed sensor - so therefor if I don't cough up the $1200 that Toyota is asking, I won't have the safety features of ABS or traction control on my car. I was driving on the highway when the ABS, brake and traction control warning lights came on... they've been on for a week.. car is sitting at Toyota now while I decide what to
When brakes are applied engine attempts to maintain speed, making it difficult to stop. After car has stopped, stepping on the gas pedal again may only allow car to move forward very slowly. This started happening within the last month and has occurred four times so far. It happens with the car in motion and either turning or going straight. So far all incidents were while driving on city streets. All safety recalls are up to date. Dealer says applying brake pressure disengages the accelerator, but this is not happening. The gas pedal moves freely and there is no interference from the floor mat. The car is at the dealer now.

Driving down road at 20-25 mph. Suddenly the right front wheel locked up (brake pedal was* being pressed) and began the ABS shudder as if vehicle was braking on ice. Vehicle pulled hard to the right; this occurred several times over the next few minutes. After car warmed up it didn't happen again, but recurred the next morning after starting out. Searched internet and found other Toyota drivers had experienced the same problem and 'resolved' it by removing fuses for ABS braking system, rendering it inoperative. Car brakes normally now with no issues, but ABS, brakes, vsc and other dash lights are on because ABS system is disabled.
Hissing noise when brake is pressed and took the car a much longer distance to stop and had to press the brakes very hard. Had to use the emergency brake to get back to home. Online it seems to suggest that this is a brake booster failure.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle failed to respond to deceleration attempts. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the hydraulic power booster had failed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was not available. The VIN was unavailable.
At first, when the brake pedal was depressed, a hissing sound appeared to come from inside the vehicle. The vehicle still braked normally, requiring the usual distance to stop. However, after some time, the "brake" light came on, and braking feel completed changed, requiring the pedal to completely be depressed just to slow the vehicle down to a stop. The brake fluid level in the master cylinder was at the proper (maximum) level and no leaks appeared around the brake calipers / pistons and ground. It seemed several owners of this generation of Rav4 (3rd generation) had exhibited similar symptoms pointing to a "brake booster" failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent, reliable shop and the "brake booster" was verified to be the problem.
