2004 Rav 4 purchased 10/2003. Love my car! Sent it off with my daughter to college a few years ago and has served her well.
Last week the transmission acted up and as it turns out is the EXACT problem that caused a recall or extended warranty for 2001-2003 Toyota Rav 4. Apparently the trans solenoid is defective and destroys the transmission. This is a well known problem, not a secret so I've found. I'm one of many 2004 owners Ruth the same experience.
Now, Toyota apologizes but has nothing in the way of help for it. Toyota wants $4500 to replace the transmission. Don't know about you but who would spend that kind of money replacing a transmission in an 11 year old car? If not for this problem we would drive the car til forever. I love, or should I say loved Toyota. Done with them now. Will not buy, rent or drive one again. I am so diss appointed in Toyota for their lack of caring for their customers. They KNOW this is the same solenoid as in the 2001-2003 Ravs. You know thy don't pull all parts from the shelf every year. They use what they have. Rant over for now. Will post any news. Would a class action be our next step? Email me at rkwelch@verizon.net with your thoughts.
