Head gaskets should not go out for no reason. The car was taken care of very well. Every oil change done at Toyota. We did all the recommended maintenance. It's a shame this happened.
While driving, vehicle experienced a misfire and check engine light comes on. Brought into repair shop to be told that there is fluid in cylinder one causing misfire and requiring the head gasket to be replaced. Will cost $3400. Another repair shop says they won’t replace the head gasket and recommend engine replacement at $5000. A hybrid and the combustion engine has issues. Was not expecting that issue with a Toyota.
Upon research, find out that 2012 Prius V has head gasket issues. There is something wrong when a car is carefully maintained and the head gasket is bad at 148k miles. It’s more egregious when the expectation that a TOYOTA combustion engine needs a new head gasket at 148k. No change in fluid levels. No “white smoke†out of the tail pipe and no sweet smell of coolant.
Very disappointing after careful research prior to purchasing vehicle to turn out to be incredibly expensive.
Vehicle is 5.5 years old. I am amazed to have this expensive of a repair on a vehicle with less than 20,000 miles. I didn't have to spend this much on previous vehicle until about 100,000 miles, to replace the transmission on a Chrysler T&C.
