I consider this a manufacturing defect. My Toyota dealer can't find a reason why the 12v battery is being drawn down. After the third visit they replaced the battery and it lasted a few months until yesterday 8/22/20. A week ago I checked the battery voltage and it was 12.16 which is low. So I put on a charger and brought it back up to 13v. Yesterday when everything was dead it was at 5v. After I charge it again it is dealer time again. This is starting to look like a lemon law problem.
Also the last trip to the dealer they said I wasn't driving it enough?? 4800 miles on second car should be enough to keep the battery charged. I think some of the problem might be caused by a lot of electric only driving around town. I'll bet the 12v battery only gets recharged when the engine is running and that there isn't a charging function going on when its plugged in. This needs to be fixed if Toyota wants to keep selling plug in hybrids.
Anyone else having this 'lack of confidence with my new car problem'?
