My wife and I bought this 2012 Toyota Prius II to save money on gas and to do our part for the environment. The car was wonderful until the battery quit on us five times in a two week period of time. We came into the Kendall Toyota here in Anchorage, AK after that assuming that the battery was dead/dying. After taking it in they determined that nothing was wrong with the cars battery. We assumed we were wrong about the issue and it was just random.
Two days later I went to the dealership car wash and the car died in the line. I walked into the dealer and they apologized and moved the car into the shop and replaced the battery. Less than a week later, I went to start my car at 7:50am and the car was freaking out on me. The lights and display inside was coming on and off. I tried to turn the car off and the air remained on as well as the heads up display. I tried quite a few times to turn it off or on, I didn't care which one. I just wanted it to do either, I failed to get the car to turn off and the heads up display began to display a message that asked that I pull the car over to a safe location and put the car into park. I was parked in my driveway the entire time.
Needless to say, we had the car towed back to the dealer. They took the car in and performed the recent February 12, 2014 recall. And they could find nothing else to resolve the issue. This is because they could not duplicate the process, which I understand is important. I have all the issues on video and am severely disappointed in Toyota, and almost as much so the dealer. They have been kind, but the issue has been dismissed because they couldn't find it with their computers. If it happens again, I will not be keeping this car.
It is sad to say, because my wife and I have enjoyed the fuel economy. No other company has been able to match the kind of fuel economy, but I don't feel like trading fuel economy for reliability. This will likely be my last Toyota.
