The paint undercoating just started peeling off for no reason. This shouldn't happen, and apparently it is a problem on the 2012 Priuses. I reported this to the dealer - and was told that they would not fix it unless we had receipts for at least 2 car detailings per year since purchase - ridiculous. This is clearly a manufacturing defect which the manufacturer should fix. A repaint/recoating costs thousands of dollars - and should not be necessary.
I have a 2012 Toyota Prius and the paint is peeling. I talked to Toyota and they said bring it to a dealership. I brought it to the dealership where I have loyally brought all my Toyotas in for regular service since 2009, and they said Toyota declined my claim. I feel that this was just a big waste of time and Toyota gave me a run around. I am very disappointed in Toyota because the dealer service writer said that this was a common problem. They did not even give me a reason for the decline in service. Never buy a blue Toyota.
The paint is peeling off and I do not want it to get worse. I did not take it back to the dealer when I first noticed because I was seriously ill and rarely driving. Now that I am feeling better I believe the car is out of warranty and I just hate to argue and hassle. I am on disability and can not afford any extra expenses. If any one can suggest how to keep the peeling from getting worse, please advise me. It seems to be on a specific spot outlined under the door handle.
Update from Sep 9, 2015: I did go back to the Toyota dealer. The service manager said it the protective coating peeling off but it is no longer under warrantee. He offered no suggestions on how to keep it from getting worse.
