The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that while driving 50-55 MPH, the ABS, traction control, and brake warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the brake booster assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 139,999.

The vehicle was taken to the local Service Center who diagnosed that power brake booster and master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle did not qualify for the Extended Warranty related to the failure. The local dealer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 135,000.

The contact depressed the brake pedal with added force to get the vehicle to slow enough that he was able to get off of the highway ramp and pull over. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle; however, the warning lights were still illuminated. The contact stated that extra force was needed to stop the vehicle. The contact drove the vehicle to his residence. The contact has not taken the vehicle to a local dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 182,000.
