A garaged car serviced by dealer since purchase. 3rd electrical problem. First two paid under extended warranty!
While driving the 101 north on start of a decent on steep grade, the full panel of light went out......NO WARNING. No brakes, no turn signal, traveling at 65 mph. Not able to slow down not able to stop! Semi trucks slowing in front of me. Got to the bottom of steep mpt. exit. Went thru stop sign, and the next stop. Hit emergency brake!
Without the electrical system, the Prius can not be put into neutral to move and the diagnostic system can not be run. The battery auxiliary battery could not hold a charge and it was replaced, but that was not the problem. I had my car towed to a shop that fixed Toyotas but was not a dealer. They couldn't get the car into the garage and had to work on it in the parking lot, testing one thing after another until they found the fuse problem. They were nice enough to not charge me for the true labor.
The car was fine for a week, then died again. It is now at the Toyota dealer and they think it needs a new hybrid battery, which costs $5K but should be under warranty since it is only 7 years old and has 71K miles..
My complaint is how difficult the Prius is to repair if the electrical system fails due to something as minor as a fuse.
