It was a cold morning, when I started the car, the speedometer display would not light up. When I attempted to turn the car off, it would not power down. Thinking the key fob might be week, I put it in the key slot and then couldn't get the car to release it or shut off. Finally, after idling for 10-15 minutes, everything returned to normal and I was able to shut the car off, retrieve the key, and proceed to work.
The engine would not turn off when properly pressed the On/Off button. After reading the car manual over a few times my son, who is a computer wiz, suggested to press the Start button for 5 seconds. This normally works with computers when they stop doing anything. It worked. Was it a coincidence, or does this work again, I do not know, but I am scared if it happens again. When I went to the dealer they said Toyota knows about this problem. However when they checked the car they said they did not find anything wrong and did nothing. Scary!
When this happened the dashboard lights did not light up. According to the dealer these two problems are connected.
