MFD - Changed 12V battery. Keeping fingers crossed.

The problem occurred after 181K miles for the first time. Enjoyed my Prius but now confidence have gone done. Replace the battery and hope the problem never recurs.

problem #1

Dec 262009

Prius

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,000 miles

My 2007 Prius engine blew up with 39K on it, because the serpentine belt broke. In short, the warning light went on, we pulled over and read the instruction manual faithfully. It did not outline that when the warning lite went OFF (due to the battery taking over from the gas engine) that the engine could STILL be overheating even though it would drive normally with no warning lights on. So even though the warning light was OFF when the battery took over - when we started back up, the engine was still overheating and we did not know it and the block cracked. The robotic Toyota rep Monique admitted that Toyota should fix this in the future manuals but would not fix my $8000 engine or offer any help. If Toyota would admit their mistake, then why would they not cover this problem? You'd think Toyota, given their current woes, would try a little harder with their customer service. Been a Toyota man for 20+ years but...Honda; here I come!
