The contact owned a 2006 Toyota Prius. The contact stated she stopped suddenly and a vehicle crashed into the rear of her vehicle causing her to crash into the vehicle in front of her. The seat belt did not restrain her nor did the air bags deploy. The contact sustained neck and back injuries. There were no passenger in the vehicle. The front and rear end had extensive damage. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The insurance company was notified. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,900. The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Prius. While driving approximately 35 mph a deer crossed in front of the vehicle. The contact was able to avoid hitting the deer but crashed into a tree. The air bags did not deploy. The contact suffered a mild concussion, bruised ribs, and a bloody nose. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the insurance company declared it destroyed. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that they wanted photographs of the damage. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
Failure of airbag on 2006 Prius to deploy after rear ending a car a 25 mph. Car was totaled and chest and head swelling occurred due to hitting steering wheel. Calls to Toyota first indicated that air bag would not have been released due to "internal compartment of car not being violated." After air bag engineer examined pictures, subsequent calls indicated that air bag could not have been released as sensors were not activated as car bumpers on car hit were higher than Prius.
Driver of a 2001 Cadillac Seville failed to yield the right-of-way turned left in front of the above listed 2006 Toyota Prius resulting in a front-end collision in-between the two vehicles, and the air bags did not deploy. Contacted vehicle oem (Toyota); who refused to support or investigate the accident and provide any air bag deployment assessment (via edr download). Damage to the vehicle was limited to the front-end, and passenger side of the vehicle.
Events: Accident. Severe rear end and front end impact. Hit by large box truck, spun around, hit again by same truck. Failure: No air bag deployment of any sort. Correction: Unknown. Automobile was a total loss.
