This is a great little truck mechanically. I guess the Japanese bought their steel from the Chinese to make this truck. Never have I seen rust this bad and I have been a mechanic for 50 years. This is basically not repairable because their needs to be some structural soundness to the repair in order to be effective but in my case there is no part of the frame that has any good integrity. Toyota corporation told me there was a campaign for trucks from 1995 to 2000 but nothing for my age truck. It cannot be lifted by the frame or it would be chrusaahed. Each rear shock has fallen off and drug on the road because the rust was so bad the bracket that holds the shock just gave out. I have searched for a new frame and have not found a credible source. Though taking the bed and cab off has its own risks that does not sound like a good option.

My son's 1992 Toyota 4-wheel drive pickup frame was rusted so bad that the dealer would not perform the steering rod replacement recall because he was afraid to raise the truck off the floor. He contacted Toyota when he heard they were buying back some pickups with this problem and was told that it was only for the 95 model. Seems that if those were that bad other year models might be also.

Pickup 3.2L V6

Took 1992 Toyota 4wd V6 pickup in to have 2 rear tires and shocks installed. When placed on lift the mechanic discovered a complete break in the frame. The metal actually crumbles off in your hands for almost 2 feet on the right frame in the rear fender well. It is also starting on the left side. I had noticed a banging in the back of the truck when going over bumps and thought it was due to a broken shock. Was told by my mechanic that he had seen the same problem on 2 other Toyotas trucks, similar year and model, and 1 had actually broken in half on the road while hauling a load in the bed of the truck. I was told not to drive the vehicle due to the possibility of a fuel tank puncture if truck folded in half. There is currently a frame recall on 1995 Toyota trucks and I wonder if the recall should include even older models. I take very good care of my vehicles and a 16 year old truck should not have a completely rusted through frame.
