Was rear ended by a woman going 65 on interstate 75 back in 2010. I was lifted up in the air and the air bags never deployed, the seat belt let me fly up in the air and I was wrapped around the steering wheel. My friends seat belt kept her in her seat and she was bent over, head on knees. I told Toyota about it many times and nothing was done. The air bags never deployed as well.
This has been a really great car but!!! I have replaced the wind shield 2 times because its the right height to catch rocks.... all in all a good car, but mad as heck about the seat belts and the airbag...I might not buy another car with them....I like for my voice to be heard! great on gas and it hasn't cause any other issue other than the stupid tire covers..cost me a lot of money to replace the hub caps.
