Both models were a joint GM-Toyota venture, manufactured together at a NUMMI production facility in Fremont, CA. Only the heating & A/C systems are different.
1) Design issue with clutch: Clutch is undersized or gear is too high in first, so have to rely on rev's to move the car forward. Works when new but wears out really fast.
2)Toyota stone walled issue, said driver problem, but I have been driving standard for 40 years,
3) internet says replace with higher quality/tougher after market clutch, this helps to double or triple wear out time, must drive very easily, but still wears out too fast
