My 2016 Highlander hybrid Limited Platinum worked fine until about 13000 miles. Then when I would push the button to start, it would periodically start beeping and flashing lights and saying that the Hybrid could not start and to put it in Park. The car was already in park and re-putting it in park did not solve the problem. Within a half hour of mucking with it, I could finally get the car to start.
Took to Bernardi Toyota and they could not reproduce. First service person suggested it was because it was cold out (so the cars don't work in the cold? They should update their specs to note this). Problem kept occurring so they took the car again and finally were able to reproduce. They had no fix and I waited for the factory to advise them what to do. It worked for a few weeks and now the problem is happening again. Probably a band-aid, not the root cause.
Spoke to service and they told me to talk to Sales to discuss getting a different car. Spoke with Sales tonight and they tried to offer me $35K for a car I paid $50K for 18 months ago! Perfect condition. Less than 14,000 miles. If I try to sell the car myself, I will be liable for the lemon law. KBB shows value at $44K. They are trying to rip me off. Sales person told me they will have to send the car to auction and won't get much for it. SERIOUSLY?! So now this is MY problem that they can't resell a broken car????
It's great to know that Toyota is worried about finding out the root cause and addressing it. NOT!!! Filed second complaint with corporate tonight. INCREDIBLY frustrated.
