At first I thought maybe the clunking, clicking steering wheel noise I felt was just part of the 2012 Toyota Highlander design, I purchased the car used in June 2020 with about 64K miles on it. I feel this clunking more at slow speeds. In fact my wife did not notice the issue at all when driving the vehicle. My 90 day warranty with Carmax was about to expire, so I took the vehicle back to them with a copy of a complaint I found here on Carcomplaints.com. I told them a Toyota service bulletin may exist about this issue.
To my pleasant surprise, Carmax did not argue, they replaced the intermediate shaft and did an alignment on the vehicle. The kept the car for 7 days, so I wonder if the repair was complicated or getting the part was difficult. No more clicking/clunking noise now! Fantastic. Thank you Carcomplaints.com - I was happy to see I was not the only one experiencing this issue.
