Our 2009 Highander Hybrid rear door/hatchback door suddenly got jammed. Upon visually inspecting i don't see anything unusual. Took the car too local toyota dealer, they first told me it was not something they can fix, i need to go to body shop. Took the car too body shop, they told me its mechanical issue. Bascially no one has done this kind of work, they are not confident with the estimate and inspection. Eventually dealer mechanic took a look(after $110) and told me they think motor is broken and i might also need to replace the left side arm. They think it is about $2000 plus labor and they still not certain if that will fix the issue. Also once they start opening the panel, something else might break and I also need to fix this. So its a real pain at this point, my SUV without backdoor is useless. Called my insurance, they first told me its not covered as its mechanical issue. Evetually they agreed to send appraiser to check the issue. when i mentioned something might be jammed on contact. We are very much upset with Toyota at this point, we paid lot for this hybrid and it was fully loaded. It was our 4th toyota and defnitely the last one.
