This is absolutely ridiculous. Initially, if it was cold outside, the liftgate would not work properly. It would freeze midway. But eventually it would stop working completely. Over the past 6 months, it has stopped working. I cannot use my back at all, which is terrible, because I have a toddler and use a stroller frequently.

I looked online to see if this was a common problem - and go figure it is! Toyota listed a service bulletin for this problem for 2014 and 2015 Highlanders. So I call my dealer and they say my VIN Number was not affected - BUT IT IS! IT DOESN'T WORK!

I was hoping this car would last forever but I hate this car. And I hate Toyota. I will never purchase another Toyota vehicle based on this past experience.

This problem was reported to Landers Toyota Little Rock Arkansas. Nothing has been done to correct this problem and it was not reported to me when I purchased this SUV.

I have little kids and need to open the back hatch often. All of the sudden it either would only open about an inch then beep or it opens 1/4 or half way. Then you have to force it up in order to keep from hitting your head on the dang thing. It is extremely frustrating. Since this started happening, we tend to just open the back window to put small stuff in, but it stinks because now we have scratches on the paint around the window. Had the hatch been working, we wouldn't have the scratches and wouldn't be so annoyed with this problem. Very disappointed in the Toyota with this problem.

Just arrived at my daughter's home in Scotch Plains, NJ after traveling from Seven Lakes, NC. After unloading items from the Highlander rear storage compartment the tailgate apparently did not close completely when lowered by pushing the button on the tailgate. My daughter then opened the tailgate using the automatic button located in the license plate area. This did not work, and the lift gate remained partially closed. She then lifted the gate manually so that a single item could be placed in the car. The lift gate remained stuck halfway up and could not be moved using any of the buttons. I then closed it manually.
