CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2010 Highlander's rear liftgate thinks it's open when it's closed and then once it's actually open, you might not be able to shut it again. Remember folks, if your liftgate is stuck open for more than 4 hours, consult your mechanic.

The repair would have cost us $3000, but then Toyota issued a special bulletin and covered the cost.

Highlander LX 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 54,000 miles

This is not the only Highlander with this problem. When it started I easily found others with the same problem on the internet. Having purchased this Toyota Certified at 30K miles and this being my 4th Toyota one would think that Toyota would fix this without my paying $540!

Highlander Limited V8

  • Automatic transmission

when i use the button to close the rear door it does not shut all the way. My daughter also has a 2010 highlander in flordia and hers started doing the same the past week. The Toyota dealer told her she would have to bring the car to the body shop. The problem sounds like a electrical problem.
