Conveniently on my first oil change after the power train warranty ended the dealer reported my timing cover leaks and needs an urgent repair which cost around $3500. The car looks practically new as the farthest it travels is kids school and is very, very well taken care of. All services done on time at the same dealer who sold me the car new.
My whole family owns Toyotas and I can't count how many Toyotas we have bought over the years. The quality has sure been gradually slipping but this one pushed it over the edge for me. My other car is a Tundra I was going to trade for a new one this year but that WILL NOT happen. Most people buy Toyota for reliability and since that is gone why not buy a cheaper Korean that includes 10 years warranty. Not to mention that the Toyota dealer people lately treat us like they are giving us a favor by selling us cars.
I'm not going to go through all the issues. All I can say is I'm that guy who change my oil at 500 and then at 1000 miles when car is brand new to break in gently (I have records to show that too) and don't accelerate fast so my car would last and this kind of problem at barely 40k mile is absolutely nothing but a defect during manufacturing process. Some tell me if you want to get real Toyota reliability buy Lexus cause even though they engine is same they actually do some QC for those and sales people treat you like you matter. I don't think so. I'm done.
Save your money, buy something else that at least you enjoy driving and look good in like German or is cheaper like domestic or is cheaper and has better reliability like Korean. Or how about switching to Honda if resale is a concern. Forget you Toyota.
