CarComplaints.com Notes: 2008 is the first year of the 2nd generation Highlander, & it may be a model year to avoid as Toyota most likely worked out some production quality issues with the new model.
The 2009 Highlander is the has far fewer complaints.
All of the sudden the XM radio locks in on one station and the CD player starts ejecting CD's randomly and the phone charger can be heard through the speakers when you are driving. This is the second time it has happened to me and both situations occurred right after it rained. I'm guessing water is entering the electrical system or humid, damp conditions short out the electrical system.
The dealer told me they were NOT ALLOWED TO FIX THE CD PLAYER!!!! They said I would need to replace the entire Cd player and GPS NAV system @ at cost of $3,200.00!!! Just to get my 4 CD's back!!
