So I just bought the brown turd and 3 days after, the power steering died while turning right into my driveway. I ended up replacing the entire rack and pinion because Toyota is a scam company and doesn’t sell just the 14 inch steel transfer line that was the real problem. It just got rusty behind a plastic clip and blew a hole through it. Not a big deal, the line was easy to take off could have just replaced a 40$ line but nope had to buy a junky reman rack and pinion for 650$ and omg what a pain in the butt that was to do in the driveway. I still hate that car and it's also very rusty underneath.

I AM 73 YEARS OLD AND DRIVE VERY CAREFULLY. MY HIGHLANDER IS AN 2007 WITH 68000 MILES, NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR ABUSED. NEW TIRES AT 60000. STEERING RACK FAILED. COST TO REPLACE UNIT IS $1600.

DEALER SAYS VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND STEERING RACK SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED.

TOYOTA HAS NO RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. THEY WILL NOT REPLACE AS IT IS BEYOND WARRANTY.
