I am an older driver and very rarely exceed speed limits, so this Highlander has been driven gently and 70% on the highway. I DID NOT EXPECT TRANSMISSION FAILURE THIS SOON. The car is like new inside and out, so I decided, after driving a tinny RAV4, a noisy Subaru Outback, and a so-so Honda CRV, to get the Highlander repaired. The only other problem I have had so far has been a leaking final drive, which Toyota paid 2/3rds of the cost to repair (at 44,000 miles), and the need for frequent brake jobs (I am told by the dealer I do not drive the car regularly enough and the rotors develop rust). Yes, the car has 43,000 miles (now), but I have driven two other Toyotas past 150K miles (both Camrys) with no problems whatever. However, my 2011 Camry sounds like it is developing transmission problems (the “going over a rumble strip sensationâ€).
