While driving normally and less than 10 miles per hour, thankfully on a regular, paved, local road with little traffic, the driver side rear suspension spring seat and stabilizer bar attachment point on rear axle suddenly, unexpectedly, and without warning just tore apart and off of the axle housing to which it was mounted and the resulting sharp and heavy metal edged parts completely sheared off a brake line releasing all hydraulic brake fluid and causing the immediate loss of all normal braking ability. Thankfully nobody was injured, but the car can't be driven at all now, because it has no brakes at all, other than the mechanical emergency brake, and by using transmission "braking." Lots of rust under car since we bought it used from dealer in morristown NJ, apparently due to low quality steel used in initial construction and apparent lack of adequate factory anti-rust treatment of frame and other undercarriage parts. Interior and painted top body parts show no rust issues. However, the underside, is full of lots of rust. This is apparently a well-known, very common problem with Toyota fj models. It is very dangerous, and it should be addressed by Toyota immediately! I'm making plans to have the car towed to a local Toyota dealership for inspection and possible repairs. Finally, as far as I am aware, this car has never done any significant or taxing "off-roading."

Chassis has excessive rust. Upper rear control arm mount on chassis rusted off. Causing loss of control when braking. Rear bumper support has hole in frame from rust. Body mounts are rusting off frame. Brake lines have rusted and leaked fluid. Gas tank strap mount is very compromised by rust. Front radiator support excessive rusting numerous soft spots and holes. Major flaking, and delamination of frame all over. Truck has 98,000 mile on it it is a manual 4WD. Located in Michigan.

Well-maintained, and not located in a salty environment, nor an environment where the roads are ever salted. This vehicle is utilizes the same frame as another Toyota vehicle (4runner), and that vehicle was involved with the frame-rusting recall during the same time period this vehicle was manufactured.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration needs to open an investigation into reports of frame rust and corrosion problems for the 2007 ' 2014 Toyota Fj cruiser. This is the same ongoing safety problem as the several past recalls on other full framed Toyota vehicles. Corrosion complaints have been filed as early as 2008 and should be noted: NHTSA id number: 10257254 incident date December 17, 2008 the excessive rust corrosion on the Toyota Fj cruiser compromises the vehicles' safety, stability, and crash-worthiness because important suspension components, engine mounts, transmission mounts, and body mounts anchor to the vehicles' frames. It has also affected the value of the vehicle. The frames are prone to excessive, premature rust corrosion because the frames were not properly prepared and treated against rust corrosion when they were manufactured. My Fj cruiser is stored, covered, and not driven in the winter and exhibits frame rust above and beyond normal wear and tear. Toyota has long known the frames were not treated properly and yet they failed to warn new buyers or offer significant help to owners. This is the same ongoing safety problem as the several past recalls on other full framed Toyota vehicles.

Unsafe frame rust where other components connect. Similar to issues found with Toyota Tacoma recall, which has an identical frame and drivetrain. There is very little rust elsewhere on car.

Frame has completely disintegrated where the rear upper control arm links meet the crossmember, making the vehicle unsafe and fail the nh state inspection. The links broke free while driving on a rural road. Upon further inspection we found rust perforation on frame rails with thin and fatigued metal in the same general area.

Took the truck into the dealer for service on the brakes and they told us the frame was rusted out. There are lawsuits on certain Toyota models that Toyota is honoring for fixing. However, when we called Toyota they told us that the fj crusier was not one and they could not help us out. We do not agree with this since this is obviously a problem with Toyota vehicles. We feel that they owe us a new frame free of charge. This is a replacement cost of $6,000 which we feel they should pay.

I took my car in for an inspection at my Toyota dealership today. I was told if I'm going to sell it or trade it in that now would be the time to do it...the tech said there are some very weak areas on the frame and that it could fracture with impact or maybe will eventually by hitting a bad pothole. There is a lot of corrosion and it seems odd because the vehicle has been stored always in a garage and only has 55,000 miles on it. It's been maintained perfectly in accordance with the maintenance manual. The clerk told me that Toyota can't fix it and won't be able to fix it once the frame fractures. It seemed frightening to me that they suggested I sell it to someone else and not disclose this potentially life threatening issue. I have read the extreme undercarriage corrosion is pretty common and others are having worse issues than I have so far. I have also now read that there was a massive recall due to the same issue with corroded frames on several other models in the Toyota line in the very recent past that ended up in a massive, almost 4 billion dollar recall. I'm pretty sure the fj should have been included in it. I hope you will look into this because it seems like it may save some lives down the road. My father was the director of research for state farm for over 30 years and was on the board of the national highway safety institute as well. He insisted I report this immediately and we both hope you take this information very seriously as I am not someone who could sell a vehicle with such an incredibly unsafe furture and hope Toyota will do the right thing and replace the frames on these vehicles as they have with all of the others.

I bought this car when the mileage was 36000. I still own this truck, the problem I have with this vehicle is too much noise coming from the rear side. I took it to Toyota dealer and was told the bearing is bad on one side of the wheel. I got both rear bearing replaced but the noise remain the same.I talk to Toyota but no fix at all. Still driving it with ear plug.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Fj cruiser. The contact stated that when driving 40 mph and above, he would hear a loud whining noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis where the contact was advised that the pinion gears and driver's side rear wheel bearing assembly failed. The vehicle was not repaired. Approximately two months prior to the recent failure, the vehicle was repaired for the rear passenger's side wheel bearing assembly. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. After accelerating from low speeds the steering sometimes has a large amount of movement left & right from very small steering inputs. Resulting in a "death wobble" sort of a feeling. This happened before and after a lift kit and tires were installed.
