Yet another issue with this truck.... This time the seat belt mechanism decided to lock up and after screwing with it trying to break it free, it stuck with far too much slack in it. Took it to the dealer after about a week and a half and thankfully they repaired this problem... Guess they couldn't argue with it being a life safety issue.
The seat belt retractor in my 2007 FJ cruiser is failing to function correctly. Something as important to the safety of the driver of the vehicle is something that should be covered under the lifetime warranty of the vehicle. Instead, Bayridge Toyota is telling me that I will have to pay to have these parts replaced. I'm horrified that Toyota has not issued a recall for this issue to correct, Toyota should assume responsibility for fixing an important safety feature.
I took the FJ to the Toyota of Knoxville dealership on 4/6/2017. I thought it was covered under the seat belt recall, but the technician said that it was not. He said the the seat belt mechanisms needed to be replaced for both front seat belts.
They did state that the recall covered the addition of "reinforcement brackets" on both access doors.
Currently, I cannot carry a front seat passenger, because I cannot use the seat belt. The passenger seat belt pulls out just enough to keep it clipped in the buckle. It won't retract.
The total estimate to replace the inoperable seat belt assembly is $330 (parts, tax, & labor).
Can anyone tell me if you have had any similar issues with your front seat belts?
How did you get it fixed?
Thanks to all.
