Up until this current problem with my clutch on my FJ Cruiser, I had nothing but good things to say about this vehicle. However, that has all changed in a matter of two weeks. First let me say this. When I purchase my FJ it was brand new. About two years after that purchase I had to replace the transmission. I had just missed the warranty!!!! This cost $4000.
Flash forward six years, which makes the transmission and all its components about six years old as well. The clutch has now gone out due to what I strongly believe is a factory defect. The clutch plate just disintegrated with no warning at all. Which put my wife and son in great danger for it went out while she was on the freeway going 50mph, in the center lane, with absolutely nowhere to pull over off this busy highway. Now when I get this vehicle to the price gouging dealership for repair, they informed me that it was going to be about $2500. And that was just to start with. This really pisses me off because it is clear to me that this clutch disk simply shouldn't have just disintegrated in this manner and Toyota should do something about their POS product. This is very frustrating because I have payed all this money for this POS and now I'm still coming out of my pocket for their incompetence.
Now that I have taken the transmission apart and put it back together. I can see more clearly just what a bad product Toyota has put on the market. It's no wander they have simply stopped malign this truck. I put the up graded clutch disk in and now it won't go into gear at all and the dash info lights won't go off. This truck is a grand investment flop!
