First brand new car and first CVT. Never thought I would ever have an issue with a brand new Toyota until now.
I have been without my car since June 4th 2022. On this day, I was driving my car during a Driver Education event with NASA everything was going fine until the end of the 5th lap. Something happened, that had never happened before and one of the worst experiences I have had to deal with in a Toyota CVT.
Codes I pulled from OBD reader: P2757 - Torque Converter Clutch Pressure Control Solenoid Control Circuit Performance/Stuck off P2820- Pressure Control Solenoid "J" Performance Stuck Off
Codes Dealer pulled: P275600- Torque converter clutch pressure control solenoid control circuit performance/stuck off P281F00- Pressure control solenoid j performance/stuck off (2 trip detected) P281F71- Pressure control solenoid j performance/stuck off actuator stuck
Based Off these Codes. Toyota DECLINED warranty repair (2) times, because according to the Field Tech Specialists (FTS), these codes were caused by using the vehicle at a NASA Driver Education event and/or "Outside Influence" or "Misuse". Despite the fact that the car is an automatic CVT, always driven in "D", and the Powertrain is OEM/Stock
NASA is also the same organization that Toyota gives out to GR Supra and GR86 owners to safely enjoy their vehicles. So my question is, if a BRAND new STOCK GR vehicle has a mechanical failure at a NASA event, will Toyota also DENY that because they were simply driving their car at an event that Toyota promotes?
There were no warning lights or any alerts to inform me that the CVT fluid was overheating or being overloaded. It literally went into LIMP mode on a Sunday. Took it to the dealer on Monday, and they said I need a new transmission....at 20k miles, and that they would not cover it, because the issue location occurred at a NASA Driver education event. Since the powertrain failed during a NASA Driver Education event, Toyota's Field Tech Specialists (FTS) would not honor the powertrain warranty. This was reviewed by 2 dealers, and 2 (FTS's) and Toyota support did not help at all. They just said the FTS make the final call
Just wanted to document my experience with you all in case anyone else experienced the same issue or if the issue will occur later on in the future, but at least this is a start and see if any other 2020+ CVT Corolla's have been affected or has ever experienced this with their 2020+ CVT Corolla.
