the incident has occurred three times since i have had the vehicle, two were at low speed and one was at moderate speed, the brakes initially start to work but in the final stage of braking the brake pedal gets very hard and the brakes seem not to be working for about 1-2 seconds, my natural reaction has been to hit the pedal several times and finally it ends up working. i took the vehicle to the toyota service center and they told me that the brake pads are perfect, when evidently it is not a failure of the break pads, i am not a mechanic but it is evident that the breaks pads are not the problem. Luckyly I didn't have cars in front, 2 stops sign and 1 was a yield sign. Not lights or alerts in the car dashboard.

I slowed down to turn into my daughter's driveway and park in front of their boat (maybe 5 mph if that). Suddenly, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed on its own. I hit the brakes with no response. I had to veer to the left of the driveway onto the grass to avoid hitting the boat and garage. The car continued to accelerate (approximately 60-70+ mph) as I tried pumping the break pedal several times with no response (went to floor board with no resistance). I had to maneuver a narrow area at a high rate of speed to avoid hitting the house to my right and trees to my left. As I came down the hill, I approached a large embankment of a knocked over tree, dirt and brush pile. I knew I had to do something or it would be a serious impact. I quickly swerved to my right. I didn't know there was a ditch to the right of this embankment, but thankfully it brought my vehicle to a stop as my front left tire became flat and stuck in the dirt This was very shocking and traumatizing. We verified there was nothing on the floor that would have caused the gas to be accelerated. My car is currently on 3 wheels where it stopped (1 wheel suspended in the air). I received medical care at the ER for back pain. A CT scan showed I had a T12 Vertebrae compression fracture. I was prescribed a back brace, pain medication and an anti-inflammatory. I have also been alternating with a heat pad and ice pack, plus using a cane to help me get around. I will be contacting Toyota as well for an investigation into the problem, but I am scared to drive this vehicle again if if they do check it over. A police report was started on 14 Jul with the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department, Oxford, MS, but it hasn't been completed. The report number is 24-003363. It wouldn't let me proceed selecting a report was filed and no report attached, so I chose no and provided report number.

Car would not restart after auto stop/start engaged and wipers on. I had to put car in park, turn off the engine then restart. Third time this has happened.

I was stopped at a light and the engine breaked. It did not reengage when I pressed the break harder or let off the break. I had to put the car in park and press the ignition button. Engine started at that time. it was raining and I did have my wipers on.

On March 9th 2023 I was stopped at a red light in my brand new 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross XLE that I had for only 13 days (it had 420 miles on it). It was raining and I had my wipers on. Suddenly a loud alarm/tone was heard and several warning lights flashed across the dash. Power steering low/engine stopped/press brake firmly to restart. The steering wheel was locked. I tried pressing my breaks several times but nothing happened. The car behind me was honking their horn over and over. Next thing I know, I feel a 'bump' as my car bumped into his. He got out of his car and came up to my window and asked "whats the problem?" I pointed at the dash and told him I had no idea what was going on! He said my car was slowly rolling backwards into his car. He told me to put the car into park and turn it off so it would stop rolling. When I did this, the alarm/tone stopped. When I started the car back up, all dash lights were off and I was able to drive it to the Toyota dealership that was about 1/2 a mile away from where it broke down. My car has been at the dealership now for 6 weeks. My case was escalated to Toyota Corporate. For the longest time they told me they "couldn't duplicate the problem" and there was nothing wrong with my car even though it had thrown a x206d code (power source stop/engine stall). It wasn't until I went to the dealership and showed them the youtube video of what I had also experienced that they were suddenly able to duplicate the problem. I have been told a "software update" is in the works and they had to hang onto my car until the update becomes available as it is a safety issue to have the car suddenly stop working while at a stop light in traffic.

Purchased a Toyota Corolla Cross 2023 on April 14th. Was very excited until I began noticing when the -??Automated Start Stop-?? system began to engage at times, when I had the system supposedly off. I took it to the dealership where they tried to reenact the problem and nothing happened, they assumed it was user error. On April 21st I had driven the car for approximately 40 minutes and it was raining very hard. I had the windshield wipers running, the radio was on and when I came to the stop sign, I engaged the break (the Automated Start Stop system was on) the car totally shut down with all its bells and whistles flashing telling me the engine was off, it needed fluid, etc. I was in quite a panic mode due to the weather conditions, and worried that someone was going to hit me from behind. After composing myself, I put the car in park and restarted the car. When I was safe to pull over I disengaged the Automatic Start Stop system. I was able to make it home. On April 22nd I took the car out to try to reenact the situation and after driving a short time, the car once again, shut down. This is very very dangerous. I now have disengaged the Automatic Start System in hopes that it will not shut down until I can return this lemon to the dealership.

My brand new Vehicle stopped functioning when I got to a stop light on 2 occasions. Steering and brakes do not work and Vehicle kept moving at a slow pace uncontrollably. The first incident, dash board read -??engine pressure low-?? This was not safe at all. It happened at an 8 lane cross intersection and thankfully I made it through before the lights turned red again. The second incident, dashboard read -??engine stopped, steering power low-?? and the car did not move after that. Had it towed back to dealership. Toyota said they were able to duplicate the problems and it had something to do with intermittent wiper-??s being on when you stop. Although I am positive I did not have my wipers on, and I was not alone, Toyota still says otherwise. I have been given back the vehicle from the dealership and feel extremely unsafe. I do not feel my safety is acknowledged as there are careless drivers on the road daily.

This car is experiencing the same issues of the engine shut off malfunction from the 2022 Corolla Cross model. I just got this car and it-??s been happening where while i-??m stopped at a intersection, the malfunction happens, tells me that something is wrong with the steering fluid, i have to put the car in park, turn off the entire car, turn it back on, and it works. This is has been a huge concern for us drivers and is extremely unsafe while driving. Many commented how it might be a bad battery cell from toyota, but this needs to get fixed ASAP!
