I hit a ditch going 75 MPH off the I-5 freeway. My 2016 Toyota Corolla was completely totaled. In the pictures you can see that the whole front end is bashed in and the air bags should have gone off, but they did not. As a result, I broke my sternum. I tried seeking legal action and I have not received any help.
I was making a left-hand turn on a two-lane highway. A driver operating a GMC 2500 Heavy Duty pick-up truck behind me was not paying attention. Instead of swerving to the right to miss me, she swerved into the on-coming lane just as I turned left. She came into full contact with my driver's door and the front fender of my car. The impact pushed me over 30 ft down the road before pushing me off of the road. NONE of my side airbags deployed in this crash. The car WAS declared totaled by the insurance company. The state trooper, the insurance company and the tow truck driver have all said that they cannot believe no airbags deployed. I was shown cars with much LESS damage than my car where all airbags deployed. Not one airbag deployed in this accident. In this accident, my head hit the pillar of my car knocking me out, giving me a concussion, and causing a laceration requiring staples in my head. In addition, the cartridge in the seat belt assembly did not deploy and the seat belt broke my collar bone.
