This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I was driving to work when suddenly thick smoke started appearing from the driver's side power window switch. I immediately pulled over and got out of the car. The smoke had the typical smell of burning plastic and the front passenger window slowly opened on its own. After 5 minutes, the smoke stopped and I continued to my office as it was nearby. Later in the evening, upon removing the switch, the melted plastic was clearly visible. One of the switches on the panel does not depress anymore due the melting of the plastic. The switch that does not depress is for the front passenger window and it has been open since Friday July 19th because the problem has not been fixed yet. I am aware of a recall for the exact same issue however, it is for Corolla models up to 2009 and since mine is a 2010 model, Toyota refuses to address this situation.
