2006 and other years of Toyota Corolla. ECM defect causes had shifting of transmission and has resulted in sudden loss of all power when driving. Cases of this problem are widely reported on the internet by owners of these vehicles but no action has been taken by the NHTSA to order a recall or to hold the company liable to repair these vehicles. I was changing lanes from the left hand lane to the right hand lane in a 2006 Toyota Corolla. The vehical accelerated suddenly left the road went through the cable barrier and over turned in opposing lanes. I was knocked unconcious. This happened at 6:00 on 7/15/2009 on I 10 in borne, tx.
Engine quit unexpectedly. Would not restart. Toyota service bulletin EG042-07 applies but would not be completed because of vehicle mileage. In the end replacing the ECU repaired the problem.
Check engine light on and off for two weeks. Harsh shifting when on. Toyota service wouldn't check until light was on during my appointment. Diagnostic code P2716. Toyota service replaced engine control module - technical service bulletin 9/20/2007 TC015-07. Covered under Toyota federal emissions warranty.
I have a 2006 Toyota Corolla ce, it's automatic with the drive shift in the center console. Shortly after purchase I noticed if the shift is barely bumped it knocks the car into neutral while driving at any speed. I have been very careful not to bump it, but yesterday I hit a bump on the interstate it knocked me into neutral, I was not aware I was out of gear, because a 18 wheeler was barreling down on my bumper, so I couldn't hear the change in the motor, but when I tried to accelerate to get out of his way, the car wouldn't go faster, then I noticed my tachometer was at 4 1/2 and knew there was a problems so I took the shoulder. I have a 17 year old son that will be driving soon, I don't feel safe with him driving because of the potential of either causing a accident, or breaking down, or ruining the car all together. The dealership shrugged their shoulders and said it didn't happen to them in a test drive around the parking lot. And all models of cars have the capability to be moved into neutral when bumped, and with out pushing the button on the shift.
