Car would fail to shift into 3rd gear causing the RPM to quickly rev up to nearly 4000 when you weren't expecting it, also causing the check engine light to go on. I had read at another post that quickly removing your foot off the gas - then tapping the gas peddle would remedy the problem. So I tried that. So far it worked. For how long, I have no way of knowing.

After one day of no repeat in this previous problem, oddly, the check engine light went off...

Corolla V4

  • Manual transmission
  • 96,000 miles

I called Jay Toyota in Columbus, Georgia where I bought my car they could not put my on the dianostic computer unless I pay $76.00 to see what wrong with it. I told the gentleman that it was my transmission in my car, he said and I quote (the only thing we do is replace transmission). Not only the transmission giving me problem it sometime will not allow me to change to drive when it in park, the engine light and the maintetance light come off and on for about a year. I know I have my oil change when need. I can't afford to pay for a transmission for car I have only Had for four years.

Is there anyone out there can help me. This problem does not come from the care of my car because I take good care of my car this is how I get to work in it.

Corolla CE V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,981 miles

It has happened twice. I was accelerating after stopped at a light. It's and automatic transmission, it changed from 1st to 2nd no problem then hesitated to change to 3rd and therefore the RPM went up to 4,000. I let go of the accelerator, then tried again and it was okay. That was yesterday. About a month ago it happened for the first time and I actually pulled over, shut the car off and then it was okay....until yesterday. What could it be? Apparently, my drive belt is cracked and I'm having it replaced this week. Could that have anything to do with it?
