CarComplaints.com Notes: There must have been something in the water at the plant where they built the eighth generation Corollas, especially the 1998 and 1999 model years.
Outside of a few engine related issues for the 1999, these are about as dependable a car as you’ll find. And remember most of these cars have 200k miles on them by now. But good luck finding one; owners say they want a new car, but can’t justify trading in their Corolla because the darn thing just keeps rolling.

When driving at 20 mph and upon attempting to stop vehicle by applying force to brake pedal brakes did not respond, in which vehicle suddenly accelerated without no prior warning, causing unwanted and unexpected acceleration also, brakes kicked in which stopped vehicle. Consumer has contacted dealer.
While driving into a parking garage car started revving very high plunged foward into a wall. While on level ground consumer was putting car in reverse revved realy loud, and it lunged foward before consumer could get vehicle in reverse, then jumped the curb. There were two incidents, one in 1999 and another in 2000. During both incidents engine revved loudly and the vehicle lunged.
