CarComplaints.com Notes: There must have been something in the water at the plant where they built the eighth generation Corollas, especially the 1998 and 1999 model years.
Outside of a few engine related issues for the 1999, these are about as dependable a car as you’ll find. And remember most of these cars have 200k miles on them by now. But good luck finding one; owners say they want a new car, but can’t justify trading in their Corolla because the darn thing just keeps rolling.

While coming to a gradual stop and going over bumps a loud noise could be heard coming from brakes. Dealer has been contatced, and replaced hydraulic brake components.
Vehicle experienced brake failure prior to accident, however dealership could not identify problem, loss of brakes resulted in vehicle rear end collision, no deployment of both air bags during collision resulting in injury.
A/C off, slightly down grade, 30 mph, 3rd gear, starting to accelarate, applied brakes suddenly, found no response for 10-15 ft and then full force brakes came on.
