This problem appeared shortly after we purchased this car. At first it only smelled while using the AC, and now it smells all the time. I always lower the window while driving. My husband had a transplant and has a compromised immune system, I am afraid this mold will make him sick.
I have talked to Toyota twice and the first time the service adviser said it smells like something must have died somewhere inside the car and then he said I would need to bring it back later because they would not have time to check it out that day. The second time they checked it, but said it was a naturally occurring odor and the only fix would be to buy their new, better charcoal filter. I refused because I shouldn't have to buy anything to fix a problem on a new $30,000 car. This is a design or construction problem and should be fixed under the warranty--not just masked by a filter.
