Paint is developing what appears to be rust stains (no bubbles or uneven surface). It seems like it's spreading all over the car, hood, roof, trunk, mirrors). It cannot be removed by washing. Brought it to detail shop and they are not guaranteeing removal.....they see this quite a bit and often requires repainting as they believe it's the clear coat is failing. A bit surprised, car is only about 3.5 years old, never in an accident, have had the car detailed once a year and wash it usually by hand, except in winter months (nearby car wash that claims to be touchless).
The paint is silver. We have a 2010 Corolla in dark gray which does not seem to have this issue. Not sure if the silver paint is more susceptible or the darker gray simply hides it better.
The car has never had a real mechanical problem since new (no recalls, no mechanical fixes) and required only basic oil changes and tire rotation. Only minor issue was cabin filter replacement (leaves get in a bit too easy) and Bluetooth is fussy at times (dies out during call sometimes and requires a stop and start of car to resolve).
Bottom line is paint finish seems like it may it of lower quality, which is a shame given what has been a fairly problem free car.
