This article is not to complain about the sticky / melted dashboard, broken visors, and the excessive oil consumption of my 2009 Camry that I am also a victim on. This is to complain about the melted / fallen black plastic cover of the trunk switch. Although I live in Dallas, Texas, my Camry is mostly (80%) garage-parked and does not expose to the directly sunlight 80% of the days. I noticed the black plastic cover of the trunk switch slowly became elongated, loose, and finally fell off.
I went to the part department of the local Toyota dealer trying to buy a replacement plastic. The guy told me that it is a fairly common problem Camry, Prius, Corolla from 2006 to 2010. He received inquiry just about 1-2x per day. Toyota does not sell just the plastic cover but the entire switch assembly which cost over $200.
I have become very disappointed with Toyota exhibiting so many "plastic-related" issues such as the melted dashboard. I understand that Toyota has offered to replace the sticky dashboard. When will Toyota accept this defect of the melted trunk switch. Toyota, I am losing my respect to you as an icon for reliability, and low TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). Please do something for me to stay with you.
