The hybrid version even shares the same excessive oil consumption as its non-hybrid counterpart. And it hardly gets enough fuel efficiency gains to warrant the extra costs up-front or during repairs.

Toyota seemed to get their act together with later model years, so if you're looking for a used Camry Hybrid I suggest looking there.

As with the other two examples, a complete loss of power to steering and braking systems...I am absolutely stunned that Toyota took a pass on assisting us with this problem. One thing that I was told years ago was that Toyota owned all of their proprietary component manufacturing...can't blame it on a supplier. With the scarcity of Camry hybrids, and the danger involved, (death) I can't believe the attitude of Toyota. Never again will we buy one...our 3 newest cars are Hyundai, 2 of them have 130-150k on them, with NO problems...Bye Bye Toyota

About two months ago I was driving slow (thankfully) and my VSC lights came on along with the triangle light, the ! light, and he emergency brake light. They all came on at once and there were no brakes or steering for a few seconds. I had my husband bring it into the dealership where we bought the car and they said it was fine. I thought that was crazy because this could have been really dangerous. Today I drove my car and the same exact thing happened as I was pulling into. It really scared me and I missed my turn because there was no steering as well. I called Pat Lobb in McKinney and they said to bring it up and they would hook it up to the diagnostic machine. I told them I couldn't drive it because I was scared to. He stated that if it doesn't come up on their code machine, then there is nothing they can do about to. I was hoping to drive this Camry Hybrid for a really long time and I am so disappointed now and don't know what to do.

Minutes after leaving home while traveling 10mph in the neighborhood, all of the warning lights on the dash illuminated - brake, VSC, tire, etc. The car lost acceleration, the steering became "gummy", and the brakes became "mushy". It took constant, complete depression of the brake pedal to stop the car over a length of about 25 feet. I took the car to 355 Toyota in Rockville, MD where it was hooked to a computer, but no problem was detected. The problem occurred a second and third time, once minutes after startup and once while traveling at 30 mph not far from my destination, thankfully. After parking the car for 2 hours, the car drove normally. The fourth time this problem occurred, I had just left the Capital Beltway and was in the process of braking in order to safely round a cloverleaf onto River Road. The brakes were barely responsive, and I narrowly missed crashing into the cars in front of me. I took the car back to 355 Toyota on December 27. The car was kept for 24 hours. The mechanics could find nothing wrong with it. I was told this was the very first time a problem such as mine has been reported to 355 Toyota. A Google query proved that this problem is more pervasive than the dealership knows or is willing to admit knowing.
