Camry SE 2.5L

Please do not buy any of the 8-speed automatic 4-cyl Toyota Camrys. That would be any 4-cyl model 2018 or newer.

For Camrys, these cars have proven to perform extremely poorly. In particular, they are extremely slow to recover from a traffic stop and are ill-suited for driving mountain roads. Every 4-cyl Camry prior to 2018 was zippier than these cars.

For the price, you would be better off getting a Toyota Corolla. Even Corollas, albeit underpowered, feel sportier, and are more fun to drive overall, than 8th-generation Camrys. At least Corollas have better gas milage and are not quite so slow to recover from a traffic stop. At least Corollas do not suffer from jerky transmission as do 8th-generation Camrys.

There is one solution to the problem of recovering from a traffic stop. Manual mode does allow for much faster acceleration than automatic mode. Of course, that comes at the expense of gas milage. However, don't expect manual mode to be of any use on a steep incline on a mountain road. These 8-speed automatic cars fail miserably with mountain driving.

I'm very disappointed with Toyota.

Car hesitates at low speeds. Unresponsive when accelerating, coming out of a stop. You really need to press the gas to get it going. Even then it takes a couple of seconds to respond. I guess I did not notice this much while drive testing. It is annoying. It can be dangerous while merging into a highway if you do not have a lot of time but so far the delay has not been that bad as to scare me. It is mostly a bad annoyance that I want to get fixed.
