August 3, 2022, at approximately 8:45 am I was driving the interstate and was in the middle lane when I received alarm steering power low and 1 to 2 seconds later my steering yanked violent to the right barely missing a heavy loaded semi track in the right lane at 70 mph by inches. I thought that was it for me. My Toyota Camry 2018 was positioned about even with the trucks trailers last wheels when the violent pull of steering wheel happened. I was extremely fortunate that no one was following the truck in the right lane and tried wresting control of the steering into the far right service lane and continued driving slowing as I was about mile and half from Toyota dealer.
When I was approached by service advisor he asked me the problem and test drove the car around the parking lot. He said he have steering failure and will need to order parts. The inspection stated will need to replace rack and pinion on a car with only 30,500 miles. The cost is $3700 dollars. Wow the rack and pinion does not last as long as a set of new tires. I have decided to take this case to court based on the number of failures with this definitely a SAFETY ISSUE that Toyota has not sent any safety bulletin to me.
I am really super disappointed in Toyota's response and help with this issue. I do not trust this car anymore or Toyota about 3-4 weeks before this happened that did a recall on the vacuum pump no charge and complete inspection of car and stated everything was fine. Talk about a false of security and why did this not appear on the inspection about the rack and pinion that was bad. I have been assigned numerous Toyota manager from their I call damage control center and each time I had to wait almost 30 minutes each time and every time they stated they would call back and did not. I asked for a rental car based on fact this was safety issue and said no. Okay, let's do this in a court room with 12 jurors let them decide if this goof for everyone who could face this car on the open road.
