I purchased my Toyota Camry SE 2018 brand new in February of 2018 with 4 miles on it. I immediately noticed the acceleration of the car was extremely poor and unpredictable. When merging into traffic you don't know if or when it will accelerate. The car also sounds like a sports car. Loud and noisy but with an extremely slow acceleration. Every time I go in for routine maintenance, I complain about this, and they test drive it and say that they found no problem. This is a serious and potentially dangerous problem. Why is Toyota pretending that it doesn't exist? I am hoping for a solution and a recall on this car. Its upsetting to know I have a brand new car that doesn't work the way that it should ,and nothing is being done about it.
Update from Jun 9, 2019: Hi, I stopped by to give an update. Since my complaint, I opened a case with a case manager from Toyota. She made an appointment for me to do a test drive with a technician at the local dealer. On the test drive ,the car performed terribly as usual. Revving loudly and barely accelerating into traffic. The technician seemed to think this was normal for the 2018 Camry. He assured me ,this is the average performance of the 2018 Camry. He took me out in another Camry and sure enough, it was just as bad as mine. I advised him, that he is only confirming, the car is defective. Who wants a car that wont accelerate properly. It became apparent to me ,that they were not going to help me resolve this issue. The only solution that I could see ,was trading out of the car. This is exactly what I did. I had to trade my 2018 Camry for a 2017 older model Camry, with a slightly higher car payment and take a loss of 1,000 negative equity added on to my new loan. I am grateful though because, it could have been worse.
On a good note , I was able to get a car that I really like ,with low mileage that performs circles around the 2018 Camry. I hope that for everyone's sake that is being affected by this, that Toyota will fix this issue.
