Car in reverse and going forward when foot on gas the car will take off at a high speed. Need to hit brakes quick to stop the car. Could cause an accident if other cars are around or pedestrians walking. I nearly hit a building.

The contact owns a 2017 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while at a complete stop and depressing the brake pedal, the engine revved to 3500-4000 RPM. The contact stated that he depressed the brake pedal harder to prevent the vehicle from moving, and the RPMs decreased. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and sent a field technician, who retrieved data from the vehicle and sent a report to the manufacturer. The contact stated that he followed up with the manufacturer and was informed that the technical department had not yet submitted a report. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

I purchased this vehicle from D-276 Adam's Toyota in Lee's Summit on or about 8/9/2021. After 250 miles of driving I began to noticed a stutter in the shifting from first to second gear. No other incident was noticed for 2 to 3 days. I was on the interstate a few days later from the first stutter when it occurred again but more pronounced. I do remember that I was accelerating at about 40% throttle because I was in a rush, and I believed the throttle intensity played a role in the abruptness of the stutter. When I reached the interstate I came to a cruising speed of around 70 and engaged the cruise. I noticed that it was behaving oddly and it would shift often to control the speed it's almost as if it's tolerances are extremely tight. The hard shifting continues but now I know to go light on the throttle to minimize impact. As for the cruise control I will only use cruise control on relatively flat roads whereas it is extremely shifty on hilly roads. (Opinion begins) I believe the adaptive cruise control should have wider tolerances I only see this as contributing to transmission degradation.

During driving or from a stop the car hesitates to accelerate. On the dash board the RPM meter displays a jerking motion as well as the car physically. Usually occurs while driving long distances and when outside temperature is above 85F.

The contact owns a 2017 Toyota Camry. While attempting to park her vehicle with her foot on the brake pedal, her vehicle jolted forward independently and wedged the vehicle in between a tree and a light post. The contact was uncertain if any warning lights had illuminated prior to the failure. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact stated that the brake pedal seemed to be stuck. A passerby was able to enter the vehicle and depressed the brake pedal several times to release it. The contact was not injured due to the failure. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was repaired. The contact called Toyota of North charlotte (13429 statesville rd, huntersville, nc 28078) for a diagnostic and was informed that the vehicle would be kept for an extended period before receiving a diagnosis. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 31,594.

While the vehicle is in motion traveling straight on a highway, warning bell sounds and three warning lights are illuminated simultaneously and constantly: Brake, ABS and stability control system. The center error message panel of the dashboard cycles through the three messages, as shown in the accompanying photos. While these messages are displayed, every few miles there is an apparent loss of power, slowing the vehicle. Pressing the accelerator further does not restore power. Fully releasing the accelerator for a couple of seconds and then pressing the accelerator does restore power. While these messages are displayed, cruise control also does not function. The warning lights remain on until the vehicle is turned off. Upon restarting, the warning lights are no longer illuminated. The photos are from October 29, 2018, but this problem has occurred intermittently and with increasing frequency (now every three days on average) for several weeks. I will be having a dealer investigate. I have seen this problem described for this vehicle make/model/year on other online complaint forums.

I bought a new 2017 Toyota Camry xle in April 2017 and soon thereafter started noticing some unusual, unintended acceleration and jerking during slowing down/deceleration. The car jerks and tries to maintain speed against the driver's intention to slow down gradually and/or stop, specifically noticeable at 20 and 30 mph speeds. During slow down, seems like car switches gear abnormally to maintain speed when it's supposed to be slowing down gradually. It tries to maintain speed for an unusually long time instead of smoothly slowing down with no foot on accelerator pedal, causing too much use of brake over and over to slow it down and avoid collision with car in front of you, slow down or stop. I am contacting you after exhausting all my efforts to convince dealer and the Toyota corporate office to have them take this 'unintended acceleration' safety concern seriously and do something about it. I am sure lots of 2017 Camry owners are suffering and frustrated with the same issue, but cannot get anywhere with dealer tech services or Toyota.

On 3/10/2018 around 7:25pm when I was very slowly pulling into my driveway my car accelerated suddenly, I was not pressing gas pedal and I was able to stop barely before it hit my garage door by stepping very hard on brakes. It would have been a major deadly accident if there were any children around. I thought Toyota had addressed this issue but apparently it had not. I have a video recording of the event on my security camera.

On January 25, 2017 at approx. 7:37 pm I started up the vehicle that was not in motion. Before placing the vehicle in motion I noticed the skid and parking brake lights were both on. I then checked the parking brake and it was in the release position (up). I put the vehicle into motion and both lights remained on. At approx. 7:45 pm I was driving cautiously on the highway at approx. 60 mph. At about 7:47 pm all of the sudden I felt the steering wheel stiffen, and at the same time the vehicle began to decelerate from 60 mph to speeds of approx. 40-45 mph. Simultaneously, I pressed on the gas pedal to accelerate but the vehicle failed to increase in speed so that is when I pressed on the gas pedal down to the floor but still the vehicle did not increase in speed. Taking notice of my immediate surroundings, I immediately noticed the skid and parking lights remained lit, so I used my left foot to double check the parking brake position and it remained in the release position (up). Not realizing what was actually happening to the vehicle, I panicked at that moment and I pressed down on the parking brake and this is when the vehicle spun out of control and off the highway into a ditch causing personal minor head injury to myself and my front passenger. The damage to the undercarriage is unknown, but the front and rear fender were proved obvious damaged. The air bags did not deploy. A police report and insurance claim were filed immediately after the accident. The vehicle was drivable and was later driven to my house and remains in the driveway until investigated by my insurance company.
